The Inside Out Sports Classic is now in its 12th year and is considered to be one of the Triangle's premier distance races. The 2010 Classic half-marathon has again been designated the RRCA state championship race for North Carolina. In previous years, over 1,000 runners have participated in the event which is produced by the North Carolina Roadrunners Club with the support of Inside-Out Sports. This year, we will use some of the proceeds from the race to support several local causes, including the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities and The American Red Cross. Additionally, this year’s events will be part of the Second Empire Grand Prix Series and host some of the area’s best competitive runners (don’t let that discourage those not involved in the SEGP!!!).
Starting Times: To beat the heat, the half-marathon will start at 7:00 a.m. and the 10K will start at 7:15 a.m.
Parking - Parking will be available in the bandwidth.com parking lot and in the adjacent Kimley-Horn parking lot (diagram). Courses: Both the 10K and half-marathon are USATF certified "out-and-back" courses. Mile markers will be placed for both races. Both the 10K and the half-marathon start on paved road, transition through paved greenway (Cary's Black Creek Greenway) and crushed-gravel, hard-packed bridle trails of Umstead State Park, and finish on pavement. The courses officially close at 10:00 a.m.
Water stations: Water and Gatorade® will be available on the entire course. There are water stations serving both directions along the courses:
Trash cans will be located near the water stations. Please drop any trash in (or at least near) them. Help us keep the course clean. Water stops shown are approximations and subject to change based on accessibility issues inside Umstead State Park. Race staff will do everything possible to ensure adequate aid is available for all participants, though runners advised to supplement with carried aid as needed. Safety/First Aid:
Timing: . Split-timers or clocks will NOT be posted along the course. All runners will be issued a ChampionChip® timing chip on the morning of the race. The chip must be secured to your shoe and will be collected after you cross the finish line. All runners who fail to return their chips will be assessed a $15 penalty. Any entrant who picks up his/her chip, but fails to finish, must return the chip at the finish line on race day or mail it after the race to: Young & Associates
