The Inside Out Sports Classic is now in its 12th year and is considered to be one of the Triangle's premier distance races. The 2010 Classic half-marathon has again been designated the RRCA state championship race for North Carolina. In previous years, over 1,000 runners have participated in the event which is produced by the North Carolina Roadrunners Club with the support of Inside-Out Sports. This year, we will use some of the proceeds from the race to support several local causes, including the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities and The American Red Cross.

Additionally, this year’s events will be part of the Second Empire Grand Prix Series and host some of the area’s best competitive runners (don’t let that discourage those not involved in the SEGP!!!).

Location: Last year, the race moved to a new course that leverages the roads, trails and greenways of Cary and of Umstead State Park. The race will start on Weston Parkway near bandwidth.com at 4001 Weston Parkway and will finish in the bandwidth.com parking lot.

Starting Times:   To beat the heat, the half-marathon will start at 7:00 a.m. and the 10K will start at 7:15 a.m.

Parking - Parking will be available in the bandwidth.com parking lot and in the adjacent Kimley-Horn parking lot (diagram).

Courses: Both the 10K and half-marathon are USATF certified "out-and-back" courses. Mile markers will be placed for both races. Both the 10K and the half-marathon start on paved road, transition through paved greenway (Cary's Black Creek Greenway) and crushed-gravel, hard-packed bridle trails of Umstead State Park, and finish on pavement. The courses officially close at 10:00 a.m.

Water stations: Water and Gatorade® will be available on the entire course. There are water stations serving both directions along the courses:

    • Water station #1 on Black Creek Greenway before the entrance to Umstead State Park.
    • Water station #2 in Umstead State Park at Mid-Gate just past the airport overlook.
    • Water station #3 in Umstead State Park at the Graylyn Trail - Reedy Creek Trail intersection.
    • Water station #4 at the Trenton Road entrance to Umstead State Park.

Trash cans will be located near the water stations. Please drop any trash in (or at least near) them. Help us keep the course clean.

Water stops shown are approximations and subject to change based on accessibility issues inside Umstead State Park. Race staff will do everything possible to ensure adequate aid is available for all participants, though runners advised to supplement with carried aid as needed.

    Safety/First Aid:

    • Triangle American Red Cross personnel will be stationed near the finish line and at Water Station #1 near the entrance to Umstead State Park. There will be volunteers checking the course during the event. If you are injured or otherwise need medical assistance, please ask another runner to notify either the course supervisor or the nearest course monitor.
    • Because of the limited width of the Greenway and Park trails we ask that runners not be accompanied by bicyclists. The extra traffic only increases the possibility of an accidental collision.
    • No type of jog stroller or animal escort is permitted.
    • The course closes at 10:00 a.m. Any runners still on the course will not be scored.
    • Although most of the course is closed to vehicles during the race, there is always a potential for a car to enter the course from a driveway. Please be alert of your surroundings..
    • RRCA State Championship rules and our insurance do not allow the use of iPods, MP3 players, headphones, or other personal listening devices during races. While you may be accustomed to using one during your practice runs and prefer to run with one, we must ask that you honor our policy. Runners violating this policy will be disqualified from the race and banned from participating in the event in future.

Timing: . Split-timers or clocks will NOT be posted along the course. All runners will be issued a ChampionChip® timing chip on the morning of the race. The chip must be secured to your shoe and will be collected after you cross the finish line. All runners who fail to return their chips will be assessed a $15 penalty. Any entrant who picks up his/her chip, but fails to finish, must return the chip at the finish line on race day or mail it after the race to:

    Young & Associates
    7001 Rainwater Road
    Raleigh, NC 27615

Race results will be posted after the race and also at www.ncroadrunners.org.
