Half-Marathon - 7:30am

An RRCA State Championship Race
Sunday, March 30, 2008
Cary, NC

10K- 7:45 am

2008 RESULTS ARE AVAILABLE - CLICK HERE

The Inside Out Sports Classic was moved to a spring event for 2008. The event is now in its 10th year and is considered to be one of the Triangle’s premier distance runs. The 2008 Classic is special because the half-marathon has been designated the state championship race by the Road Runners Clubs of America. In previous years, over 1000 runners have participated in the event which is produced by the North Carolina Roadrunners Club with the support of Inside-Out Sports. This year, we will use some of the proceeds from the race to support several local causes including the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities.

WHAT'S NEW FOR 2008?
  • New Cotton Technical Shirt - Be one of the first runners to try out a new cotton race t-shirt that is treated with "Wicking Windows", a moisture management finish that transfers moisture away from the body. T-shirts are provided by two of our sponsors - Cotton Incorporated and SubLock Active Cotton.

  • Shuttle bus - We will provide shuttle bus service from the finish area back to Inside-Out Sports.

Courses: Both the 10K and half-marathon are USATF certified "out-and-back" courses but with about 0.75 mile separating the start and finish lines as described above. There are mile markers for both races. The 10K (NC08101NW ) is run entirely on paved road. About half of the half-marathon course (NC08102NW) uses the 10K course with the remainder taking place on a combination of paved greenway (Black Creek Greenway) and hard-packed bike & bridle trail in Umstead State Park. The courses officially close at 10:30 am.

Note: - There has been a slight course change effective 2/1/08 and new maps are pending.
Click HERE for a narrative explanation of the course.

Water stations: Water and Gatorade® will be available on the entire course. Gu Energy Gel® will be available on the half-marathon course. There are three water stations serving both directions along the course:

  • Water station#1 has been moved and is now located on Weston Parkway at the driveway for our local presenting sponsor, Cotton Inc. (approximately 100 yards from the 10K turnaround point). It serves both the 10K and half-marathon races.
  • Water station #2 is located near the southwest gate of Umstead State Park on Old Reedy Creek Rd. (at approx. 5.3 miles and 8.6 miles).
  • Water station #3 is located inside Umstead Park along Reedy Creek Trail southwest of the airport overlook at the water fountain (at the 6.6 mile and 7.3 mile points on the half-marathon).

Trash cans are located near the water stations. Please drop any trash in (or at least near) them. Help us keep the course clean.

Safety/First Aid:
  • Triangle American Red Cross personnel will be stationed near the finish line and at Water Station #2 near the entrance to Umstead State Park. There will be volunteers checking the course during the event. If you are injured or otherwise need medical assistance, please ask another runner to notify either the course supervisor or the nearest course monitor.
  • Because of the limited width of the Greenway and Park trails we ask that runners not be accompanied by bicyclists. The extra traffic only increases the possibility of an accidental collision.
  • Runners with baby joggers must check with the registration desk to have it inspected prior to the start of the race. No other type of strollers are permitted.
  • The course closes at 10:30am. For safety reasons, any runners still on the course at that time will be asked to move out of the road and on to the grass shoulder.
  • Although the course is closed to vehicles during the race and we have Cary Police officers and course volunteers at every strategic point possible , there is always a potential for a car to enter the course from a driveway. Please be alert of your surroundings.
  • RRCA rules and our insurance do not allow the use of iPods, MP3 players, headphones, or other personal listening devices during races. While you may be accustomed to using one during your practice runs and prefer to run with one, we must ask that you honor our policy. Runners violating this policy will be disqualified from the race and banned from participating in the event in future.
Timing: At this point, we are not planning to have split-timers or clocks along the course. All runners will be issued a ChampionChip® timing chip. The chip must be secured to your shoe and will be collected after you cross the finish line. All runners who fail to return their chips will be assessed a $15 penalty. Any entrant who picks up his/her chip, but fails to finish, must return the chip at the finish line on race day or mail it after the race to:

Young & Associates
7001 Rainwater Road
Raleigh, NC 27615

Note: We have made a change from our previously posted information. Chips will not be available prior to race day. ALL runners must pick up their chips on race day morning at Inside-Out Sports.
