ABOUT THE AMERICAN TOBACCO TRAIL AND TRIANGLE RAILS TO TRAILS CONSERVANCY : The Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy (TRTC) was founded in 1989 to preserve local abandoned railroad corridors for future transportation and recreational trails. The American Tobacco Trail (ATT) is TRTC’s most ambitious project, and runs through Durham, Wake, and Chatham counties. Approximately 22 miles of trail are currently open on the ATT for recreational use, and a total of 30 miles are planned all together. TRTC works with local and state governmental officials, corporate advisors, and volunteers to plan and raise support for the development of the ATT. |
