The North Carolina Roadrunners Club presents the 16th Annual Women’s Distance Festival 5k. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Interact, a private, non-profit agency whose mission is to provide safety and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and to promote violence-free relationships and communities through collaboration, public information and advocacy.
The course will run through historic Mordecai and surrounding neighborhoods and start and finish at the Halifax Community Center near Peace College. We encourage women of all ages and abilities to participate.
The 5k race begins at 8:30am. The co-ed children’s runs begin at 9:30 am. The distances are 100 meters for 6 & under and ¼ mile for 6-10 year olds.
The entry fee for the NCRC Women’s Distance Festival is $25. All participants registered by September 13 (online or postmarked) will receive a short sleeve t-shirt specifically cut for women. The children’s races are $10/$15 late (postmarked after September 13, 2008).
There are no t-shirts for the children’s races.
We encourage women and girls of all ages and abilities to participate. The event is often a female runner's first opportunity to take part in a group-running activity. This year the event will include over 100 women from the North Carolina Roadrunners Club Women’s Beginning Running Program. These women, many of whom have never participated in a race before, have trained for this event as a group during a 10-week period.
Over 500 women of all ages from the Triangle, Triad and Eastern North Carolina will participate in the Race. Awards are given to overall, age group and overall master winners, but everyone is a winner in this race and health walk. Whether you run or walk, the event provides positive feedback to all participants and provides important role models for young women. |
